ETF List - Long & Short ETF's Guide

What is an ETF? An ETF is an Electronic Traded Fund or a basket of stocks that trades on an exchange. Investing in ETF's allows an investor to take a long or short position in a sector or a basket of stocks without having to bet on just one company in that sector. ETF's also allow investors the opportunity to have leverage. For instance, If I thought Gold was going higher and I wanted to buy a leveraged gold ETF, I could purchase the ProShares Ultra Gold (UGL) which is 2x (double) the investment on Gold. This leveraged ETF allows me to make a big play in gold without having to by the actual commodity itself.

These days, there seems to be an ETF for just about anything. ETF's are great buys for the long term as long as you read the fine print. Some Electronic Traded Funds offer only the performance on a daily basis and are actually bad investments. Whether you are buying an ETF to go long or short, make sure you understand how the ETF you are buying works before investing in it.
